ABOUT JAMIE Jamie Maclaren is a sole practitioner with a primary focus on civil litigation, and a secondary focus on solicitor's work for small businesses. He is the Founding Executive Director of Access Pro Bono and a former Vice-President of the Social Planning and Research Council of BC. He once practiced as a labour and employment lawyer in downtown Vancouver. Jamie provides affordable legal services to individuals, non-profit organizations and small businesses alike. Service and fee arrangements are tailored to each client's specific circumstances with the aim of providing maximum access to quality legal counsel. JAMIE'S COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS Jamie volunteers as a director and supervising trial lawyer for the Law Students Legal Advice Program at Allard Law, conducts free legal seminars and advice clinics in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, and regularly provides pro bono legal representation at all levels of court to low-income people confronted by individual and systemic legal problems. An adjunct professor at Allard Law, Jamie designed and taught Canada's first experiential law course on access to justice. He is an original member of the Allard Law Dean's Advisory Council, a founding member of the new BC Access to Justice Committee chaired by the Chief Justice of BC, and Co-Chair of the Justicia Project for the retention and advancement of women lawyers. He writes a column for the Slaw.ca blog and speaks locally and internationally on the subject of access to justice. In 2009, Jamie received the UBC Law Alumni Association Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. In 2014, he received the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch's Harry Rankin QC Award for Pro Bono Service.
